Abstract
ABSTRACT
In the present investigation, the influence of the molar ratio and the hydraulic retention time
on the removal of the black dye T present in the retanning effluent of the tannery Ecológica
del Norte was studied by means of a Fenton process, for which two reactors with a
continuous system with capacities of 4 and 8 L were elaborated. The reagents used were
hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and ferrous sulphate (FeSO4). The variables evaluated were the
hydraulic retention time and the molar ratio of the retannage effluent with black dye T. The
investigation was carried out at different molar ratios (R1 - 1/10, R2 - 1/30 and R3 - 1/60)
obtained by reaction stoichiometry and at different hydraulic retention times (60 min, 150
min and 240 min). The results showed that at a molar ratio of 1/30 and at flow rates of 133,
53 and 33 mL/min the best percentage of colour removal was obtained with an average of
75%. It was also observed that for the hydraulic retention time the best molar ratio is R2 -
1/60 being the most efficient at a hydraulic retention time of 240 min, which allows us to
conclude that the influence of the molar ratio is more important than the influence of the
hydraulic retention time.
