Abstract
The present quantitative, descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional, descriptive research was carried out with the purpose of determining the relationship between the level of empathy and satisfaction in mature adult patients with nursing care in the emergency department of the Melvin Jones Health Center, in a sample of 199 mature adults, to whom two questionnaire-type instruments were applied: empathy of the mature adult patient in nursing care and satisfaction of the mature adult patient in nursing care. Spearman's nonparametric test was used to correlate the variables. The results indicated that 60.3% of the patients surveyed perceived a high level of empathy, 33.7% a medium level of empathy and 6% a low level of empathy. On the other hand, 94% of the patients showed satisfaction, while 6% showed dissatisfaction. In conclusion, it was found that there is a high positive significant correlation (Rho=0.845; p=0.000<0.05), that is, the higher the levels of empathy, the higher the patient satisfaction, and the alternativehypothesis is accepted
