Abstract

Materials and Methods: A systematic review of articles published in Pubmed, Cochrane Library, and Scielo from 2019 to November 2023 was performed. We included randomized clinical trials (RCTs), case-control, and cohort studies focused on the use of telemedicine to improve treatment adherence in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Results: 1890 patients were enrolled in 7 studies. We identified 5 types of interventions: 3 VOT, 2 VDOT, 1 SMS with phone calls, 1 WOT and 1 EMM studies, of which 5 studies were analyzed, where telemedicine was found to be superior but not significant compared to DOT. Conclusions: Telemedicine is effective in maintaining adherence in the treatment of patients with tuberculosis, but its various modalities should be adjusted to the population served. It is recommended to investigate how these interventions affect the probability of relapse and emergence of drug resistance.
