Caracterización del consumo de bebidas energizantes y sus efectos en el organismo en estudiantes de la Universidad Nacional de Trujillo – Filial Huamachuco

Abstract
Las bebidas energizantes (BEs) son extremadamente populares entre adultos y adolescentes. El presente estudio descriptivo tuvo como propósito caracterizar la ingesta de BEs y los efectos provocados en estudiantes de la Universidad Nacional de Trujillo – Filial Huamachuco matriculados en el semestre 2020 – II. Para ello se diseñó un formulario aplicado a 277 universitarios de las carreras de Ingeniería Agroindustrial, Ingeniería de Minas, Administración y Enfermería. Los resultados demuestran que el 93% consumió alguna vez BEs. El 28 % lo viene consumiendo hace cuatro años y un 26 % hace un año. No obstante, la frecuencia de 3-4 veces por semana representa un 11%. Entre las marcas preferidas se encuentran “Sporade” con 33 % y “Volt” con 25 %. El criterio predominante para su compra es el sabor (54%), mientras que el factor publicitario fue el menos determinante (2%). Entre las principales causas que inducen su ingesta fueron incremento del rendimiento físico con 22 % y mejorar la eficiencia de estudio con 16 %. Entre los medios que presentan más influencia al momento de su compra fueron el internet con 44% y la televisión con 36 %. El 12% combina las BEs con bebidas alcohólicas o fármacos. Entre los efectos del consumo en el organismo: un 22% manifiestan no tener reacción, el 48% un aumento de energía y el 26% euforia. El 39 % considera que tarda 10 minutos en sentir sus efectos. En relación a los constituyentes de este tipo de bebidas, el 73% desconoce lo que consume. Entre los síntomas que han sufrido a causa de su ingesta, se encuentra la baja de presión, el insomnio, la poliuria, cefalea y rubor facial. Los bajos índices de efectos perjudiciales están relacionados con la cantidad, la frecuencia y la forma de consumo.
ABSTRACT Energy drinks (BEs) are extremely popular with adults and teens. The purpose of this descriptive study was to characterize the intake of BEs and the effects caused in students of the National University of Trujillo - Huamachuco Branch enrolled in the 2020 - II semester. For this, a form applied to 277 university students from the careers of Agroindustrial Engineering, Mining Engineering, Administration and Nursing was designed. The results show that 93% ever used BEs. 28% have been consuming it for four years and 26% for a year. However, the frequency of 3-4 times a week represents 11%. Among the preferred brands are "Sporade" with 33% and "Volt" with 25%. The predominant criterion for its purchase is taste (54%), while the advertising factor was the least decisive (2%). Among the main causes that induce its intake were an increase in physical performance with 22% and an improvement in study efficiency with 16%. Among the media with the most influence at the time of purchase were the internet with 44% and television with 36%. 12% combine BEs with alcoholic beverages or drugs.
