Abstract
The death rate due to sepsis and septic shock in pediatric age worldwide reaches 10%, which makes these pathologies important causes of morbidity and death in this age. In septic shock it happens the decrease in oxygen saturation and poor supply of oxygen to the tissues leads to anaerobic metabolism and the consequent increase in lactate. On the other hand, during an inflammatory and infectious process, the production of serum albumin is inhibited and its concentration decreases; this due to the alteration of liver function. This research project is observational, with a retrospective cohort design, whose objective is to evaluate the usefulness of the Lactate/Albumin Index as an early predictor of mortality in the pediatric population of the Belén de Trujillo Hospital treated during the years 2015 and 2022.
