Abstract
ABSTRACT The present research work arose from the need to know the characteristics of the existing soils in the Paramo pluvial Subalpine Tropical life zone of the province of Santiago de Chuco, basic information for a better use of these soils, which are found in use as grazing and mining areas; polluting the soil and water, leaving aside all the potential they have. The objective of the project was to characterize the soils of the study area based on the ten existing geological formations, taking sampling points at different altitudes in each of them and within each altitudinal strip according to the predominant sub-landscapes. Test pits were opened at each sampling point in order to take samples from the different horizons of each exposed profile. In each soil sample, the basic physical and chemical properties were evaluated through characterization analyzes carried out in the Soil and Foliar Analysis laboratory of the National University of Trujillo. From the physical and chemical properties, it can be deduced that the richest and most suitable soils for agricultural activity are located in the area of geological formation of the Calipuy group.
