Abstract
Abstract Anemia in pregnant adolescents is a risk factor for both the mother and the newborn; it has an impact on the anthropometric characteristics of the newborn. Objective: Determine if there is an association between anemia in pregnant adolescents and the anthropometric characteristics of neonates born at the Belén Hospital in Trujillo from January to December 2021. Methods: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out. 130 pregnant adolescents between 10-19 years old were studied. Results: Of the neonates of pregnant women with anemia, 3.1% have low birth weight (p=1.0). 36.9% of neonates of pregnant adolescents with anemia had low size at birth (p< 0.01). 1 neonate was found with a decreased head circumference and belonged to the group of adolescent mothers without anemia (p=1.0). The degree of anemia has no statistical relationship with either the birth weight or the birth size or the head circumference at birth of the newborn (p>0.05). Conclusion: There is an association between anemia in pregnant adolescents and low birth height in neonates born at the Belén Hospital in Trujillo from January to December 2021.
