Abstract

Abstract To determine the effectiveness of an educational program applied to secondary school students in the prevention of computer vision syndrome. Methods: A pre-test and post-test study was conducted, consisting of 280 students. STATAv16 was used for data analysis, a bivariate and logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the association between the intervention and the presence of computer vision syndrome, with a 95% CI and considering a p value <0.05 as statistically significant. Results: 63.25% of the students were diagnosed with CVI before the educational program, decreasing to 36.75% after the application of the program. The decrease in the frequency of CVI signs and symptoms was significantly related to the implementation of the educational program (p <0.05) with the exception of itching, red eye, pain and increased sensitivity to light. It was determined that before the application of the program, students presented 4.48 times greater relative risk of SVI than after its application (B=1.5, OR=4.48 CI 95%=3.09-6.50) Conclusions: The educational intervention, focused on promoting healthy visual habits, proved to be an effective tool for the prevention of computer vision syndrome.
