Abstract
ABSTRACT In the present investigation, the general objective was: To analyze the discursive representations that determined the figure of the "technocrat" in the candidates in the 2021 presidential elections. Therefore, a mixed approach based on Discourse Studies was proposed, with a non-experimental-cross-sectional methodological design. The discursive representations of ten candidates for the presidency of the Republic of Peru, who participated in the first round of the 2021 General Elections, were studied. Concluding that the discursive representations used by the candidates show that the technocratic social discourse in Peru is used by candidates who do not necessarily have academic preparation and work experience that position them as technicians or technocrats. Likewise, the technocratic discourse in Peruvian politics is polarizing where the political system and democracy are devalued.
