Abstract
Abstract Ketamine, an anesthetic discovered in the 1960s, is known for its effects of hypnosis, analgesia, and amnesia. Although it was initially considered impressive, it is now rarely used for anesthesia due to its adverse effects. Many hospitals lack a specialized pain management unit and 24-hour laparoscopic equipment, highlighting deficiencies in Peruvian healthcare facilities. Ketamine, when used in subanesthetic doses during general anesthesia, has few adverse effects and improves postoperative pain control, potentially reducing the need for additional analgesics.
