Abstract
Diabetes is one of the most critical public health problems, mainly Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, which has increased proportionally in almost all countries in the world. The objective of this quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional research study is to determine the relationship between level of knowledge and preventive practices against Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in university students of the Faculty of Nursing at the Trujillo Campus. The sample consisted of 155 students, according to inclusion criteria. The survey was used as a technique and a questionnaire and a Likert-type scale as instruments. The data were analyzed and processed using Spearman's compensation coefficient. The results indicated that 65% of the students presented an adequate level of knowledge, 33% an intermediate level and 3% a low level. Regarding the level of practices, 45% presented themselves as moderately favorable, 37% favorable, while 18% presented an unfavorable level. Spearman's rating coefficient is R=0.715, this establishes that there is a high positive compensation between these two variables, that is, the level of knowledge highly influences the level of practices of nursing students
