Abstract
Antinuclear antibodies (ANA) are immunoglobulins that have reactivity against antigens present in the nuclei of cells of many tissues and organs, therefore, they are frequently associated with systemic diseases. In order to study the frequency of antinuclear antibody patterns in patients treated in a Private Clinical Laboratory in Trujillo, 1053 results of patients who requested the ANA analysis were analyzed. 166 positive results for ANA (15.76%) and 887 (84.24%) negative were found. Of the positive cases, 79 (47.6%) presented a homogeneous pattern, 62 (37.3%) a speckled pattern, 17 (10.2%) a centromere pattern and 8 (4.8%) a nucleolar pattern; concluding that the homogeneous pattern is the most frequent one.
