Abstract
Abstract The research project aims to determine whether hyponatremia is a predictor of disability in patients with Guillain Barré Syndrome. It consists of an observational study with an analytical-longitudinal design of historical cohort type. The study variables are hyponatremia and disability. The population will consist of patients treated for Guillain Barré Syndrome in 4 hospitals in the city of Trujillo during the period from January 1, 2013 to June 30, 2023 and who meet the selection criteria. Subsequently, they will be divided into two groups according to the sodium value at admission: hyponatremia and non-hypernatremia, for each group information will be collected on the Hughes functional scale score 6 months after symptom onset. The aforementioned score will be dichotomized as Disability (Hughes ≥ 3) and non-disability (Hughes < 3) for analysis along with other relevant data. In addition to the main study variables, hyponatremia and disability, other variables of interest that could be associated with the variables under study will be collected. The data will be processed using the SPSS 29.0 statistical package, the presence/absence of hyponatremia and the diagnosis of disability of patients diagnosed with Guillain Barré Syndrome will be shown. In addition, Chi-square test will be used to verify the association with covariates and logistic regression analysis will be applied to determine whether hyponatremia is a predictor of disability.
