De esta manera, se llevó a cabo el estudio de la arquitectura y el análisis morfodecorativo de la cerámica en superficie, con la finalidad de brindar aportes en el conocimiento sobre las ocupaciones prehispánicas del valle de Chicama. Los datos obtenidos en el estudio son resultado de una prospección sistemática intra sitio, donde se registraron los componentes arquitectónicos y se recogió la cerámica diagnóstica hallada en superficie. El análisis arquitectónico y morfo-decorativo de la cerámica registrada permitió determinar que el sitio Cerro Azul 1 cumplió un rol defensivo durante la fase Moche Tardía, así como en la etapa inicial del periodo Horizonte Medio.ABSTRACT The present work investigates the function and cultural affiliation of the archaeological site Cerro Azul 1, lower Chicama valley; it was carried out within the framework of the Chicama Archaeological Program (PRACH), responding to one of the objectives set by the project, such as characterizing the archaeological sites belonging to Polygon 1. In this way, the study of the architecture and the morpho-decorative analysis of the surface ceramics was carried out in order to contribute to the knowledge of the pre-hispanic occupations of the Chicama valley. The data obtained in the study are the result of a systematic survey, where the architectural components were recorded and the diagnostic pottery found on the surface was collected.
