Material and methods: experimental in vitro study, for which a strain of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 was used and 5 groups were considered (16 repetitions each): 2 control groups: nothing was applied to one group and vancomycin was applied to another group; and 3 experimental groups: ethanolic extract of Culcitium canescens (vira vira) at 25, 50 and 100%. Results: the in vitro antibacterial effect of the ethanolic extract of Culcitium canescens on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 was demonstrated, with three concentrations 25%, 50% and 100%. Based on the results obtained during the investigation, the inhibition halos at the concentrations of 100% and 50% had a mean of 15.94 mm and 9.13 mm respectively, compared to the Duraffourd scale Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 had a medium sensitivity for this. concentration while the inhibition halos obtained with the 25% concentration had a mean of 7.25 mm compared to the Duraffourd scale, this is null. Conclusion: The ethanolic extract of Culcitium canescens presented antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 at concentrations of 50% and 100%.Evaluar el efecto antibacteriano in vitro del extracto etanólico de Culcitium canescens “vira vira” frente a Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923.
