Item Evaluación del comportamiento de grietas en ductos api 5l x70 psl2 para transporte de hidrocarburos mediante elementos finitos(Universidad Nacional de Trujillo, 2016) Avila Bermeo, Henry ErickStructural integrity assessment in hydrocarbon transportation systems has become critical especially in very old pipes and due to the diverse geography of Peru, which produces unexpected load conditions. In many situations, the flaws that cause structural failure are cracks. Modern inspection methods allow locating and sizing flaws in pipes; however, we need to know how they respond to the various operating conditions. In this work, models based on fracture parameters are developed, taking into account the different conditions around the crack tip to explain the behavior of cracks in pipes. It is used the failure assessment diagrams (FAD) method, which is similar to other procedures in the literature. This allows us to consider the interaction between two important modes of failure: fracture mechanics and plastic collapse. Fracture models are implemented using software based on finite element method to calculate the stress intensity factor in cracks located in the base material of pipes. The used methodology involves different calibration stages of models which allow progressively estimate the appropriate mesh characteristics to obtain approximate existing solutions in literature. Models of increasing complexity are developed, from 2D plate with a throughthickness centered crack, 3D plate with a through-thickness centered crack, 3D plate with a semi-elliptical surface crack, to 3D pipe with a semi-elliptical surface crack, verifying their validity. Validated models are applied to the case of severity assessment of outer semi-elliptical surface cracks in Camisea gas pipelines, proving its utility in making decisions regarding safe operating conditions.
