ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Hyponatremia is a common electrolyte imbalance in elderly patients. This particular population has inherent age-related predispositions, comorbidities, and physiological changes related to the medications the patient receives. It is also a prognostic factor for your condition. Therefore, the following research problem is posed: What is the prevalence and factors that trigger hyponatremia in older adults in internal medicine hospitalization at the Belén Hospital in Trujillo during 2022? HYPOTHESIS: There is a high prevalence of hyponatremia in patients hospitalized in the internal medicine service of the Belén Hospital in Trujillo, during the period from October to December 2022. There is a relationship between hyponatremia and factors such as certain diseases and consumption of certain drugs. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Determine the prevalence and factors associated with hyponatremia in older adults in internal medicine hospitalization at the Belén Hospital in Trujillo during 2022. MATERIAL AND METHODS: An analytical, observational, retrospective study will be carried out. The study population was calculated with an unknown prevalence, a confidence interval of 95% and a precision of 5%, obtaining a total of 233 patients hospitalized in the Medicine Service of the Hospital Belén de Trujillo.
