Abstract
Abstract In the present non-experimental, transactional and correlational research, we deal with an issue of great concern in society related to sexual health that has a great influence on the general wellbeing of university students. It was carried out with the objective of establishing the association between the variables of the sociodemographic profile with the knowledge and preventive attitudes of STIs and contraceptive methods, in Statistical Engineering students at the National University of Trujillo. We worked with a sample of 96 students to whom a properly structured and validated questionnaire was applied. Non-linear canonical correlation analysis was applied to evaluate the association between the variables of interest. Finally, evidence of association was found between sociodemographic variables with knowledge and attitudes towards STI prevention and contraceptive methods, detecting those female students and origin from a nonnuclear family are associated with attitude levels. association between cycle and levels of knowledge, where students in higher cycles tend to have better knowledge on this topic, an association of the region of origin with the prevention of STIs and contraceptive methods was also evident. These results could contribute to the formulation of programs aimed at improving sexual health and therefore well-being in this segment of the population
