Abstract
ABSTRACT The objective is to evaluate the acute toxicity of the hydroethanolic extract of Persea caerulea bark in Rattus norvegicus var. albinus. An experimental design with three groups was used: control, problem group I (300 mg/kg/day) and problem group II (2000 mg/kg/day). Body weight was recorded and biochemical analyses (urea, creatinine, AST, ALT, ALP) were performed after 14 days of administration. In addition, histological analyses of various organs were performed. The results showed significant variations in the body weight of male rats treated with the highest dose. A dose-dependent increase in plasma concentrations of urea and hepatic markers AST, ALT and ALP were observed. Histopathological analysis revealed minimal changes in some organs, such as the stomach and lungs, while evidence of liver damage was observed in histological sections of the liver. It was concluded that the hydroethanolic extract of Persea caerulea at a dose of 2000 mg/kg generated mild hepatotoxicity
