Abstract
ABSTRACT With the objective of evaluating the productive performance of guinea pigs, the present investigation was carried out in the farm "Solórzano" located in the province of Viru, La Libertad region. A feeding trial was conducted for 8 weeks, 45 guinea pigs of 12-25 days of age with an average weight of 372.62 were used in a completely randomized design; to determine the effect of a premix for guinea pigs on the performance of guinea pigs in the weaning-fattening stage. The animals were distributed in three treatments T0: control treatment which contained formulated food (corn, bran, soy cake, powder, molasses, Ca, P, salt, pre-mix, sequestrant and vitamin C), was divided consecutively in R1 , R2, R3, T1: treatment which contained formulated food (corn, bran, soy cake, powder, molasses, Ca, P, salt, pre-mix, sequestrant and vitamin C) + 500 gr of premix for guinea pigs and divided consecutively into R1, R2, R3, and T2: treatment which contained formulated food (corn, bran, soy cake, powder, molasses, Ca, P, salt, pre-mix, sequestrant and vitamin C), + 1 kg of premix for guinea pigs and divided consecutively into R1, R2, R3. For the final weight and total weight increase, the control treatment (T0) achieved lower values with respect to T1 and T2 (p <0.01), while the last two were statistically equal. Similarly, the morbidity and mortality percentages reached a level of zero for the three treatments. It is concluded that the treatments with premix improve the performance of the weaning-fattening guinea pigs.
