Abstract
Objective: To determine the diagnostic value of a photographic method in the identification of the facial biotype. Material and method: Retrospective, cross-sectional and observational study; evaluated a sample of 51 frontal photographs and lateral radiographs obtained from the clinical records of patients in the orthodontic service of the USEE-UNT. For the identification of the facial biotype, the radiographic method was used by the Ricketts Vert coefficient, and for the photographic method the measure of the facial aperture angle. SPSS-23 statistical support was used to process the data. Results: For the dolichofacial biotype, it obtained sensitivity of 92.9%, specificity of 45.9%, positive predictive value 39.4% and negative predictive value 94.4% for mesofacial: S = 31.6% and E = 62.5%, PPV = 33.3%, 60.6% and for brachifacial: S = 0% and E = 100%, PPV = not determined, NPV = 64.7% Conclusions: There are no significant positive predictive values presented for any of the facial biotypes, which translates into a low possibility of certainty in the diagnosis
