Abstract
Blood transfusions constitute a means of transmission of various diseases, which is why it was approved worldwide that donated blood units are not available until tests for infection markers have been performed; Faced with this, the objective of this research was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with syphilis in the blood donor population of the Belén Hospital in Trujillo during the period 2018 – 2022. A retrospective and cross-sectional methodology was followed. 100% of the donor candidate selection forms were evaluated, and the results consider the total number of reactive and non-reactive individuals per year, in addition to sex, age, type of donor, marital status, occupation, place of origin, use of tattoos, piercings or accidental contact with blood, intravenous or other drugs and if you have or have had risky sexual behavior. Of 36,845 donors, 376 reactive cases of syphilis were reported, obtaining a global prevalence of 1.20%. It was also found that the prevalence between the years 2018-2022 had a homogeneous statistical behavior (p=0.0677>0.05). Using the Chi square test, three factors associated with syphilis were determined (p-value <0.05), such as age between 30-49 years, single marital status and dependent occupation
