Abstract
The present correlational descriptive study, of cross-sectional, non-experimental nature, was conducted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Belen Hospital in Trujillo, during the months of March and April 2022, with the aim of determining the relationship between nursing care and intrahospital infections in premature neonates. The sample consisted of 27 nurses and 27 medical records of hospitalized premature newborns. Two instruments were used for data collection: a checklist to assess nursing care for premature neonates and a sheet for identifying intrahospital infections. Results were presented in single and double-entry tables, considering numerical and percentage forms. Chi-square test was employed for statistical analysis. The results were as follows: Nursing care was rated as regular in 37 percent, good in 33.3 percent, and deficient in 29.7 percent; the majority of premature neonates had intrahospital infections (74.1 percent), while 25.9 percent did not. It is concluded that there is a highly significant relationship between nursing care for premature neonates and intrahospital infections (p = 0.000)
