Abstract

The sample universe was made up of 126 nursing interns who met the inclusion criteria. Two instruments were used to collect data: The WONG – LAW emotional intelligence scale (WLEIS) and the BAR-ON inventory prepared by Ms. Vázquez (2019), which merged the Wong – Leis Emotional Intelligence instrument (WLEIS). with 4 questions from the Bar-On inventory (I-CE) and a work performance evaluation sheet adapted and prepared by DISA IV LIMA ESTE in 2013. The analysis of the relationship of the variables was carried out using the correlation coefficient of Spearman. The results indicated that 57.9% of nursing interns have a high level of emotional intelligence and 42.1% have a medium level. Likewise, 88.4% have a high level of work performance and only 11.6% have a medium level. Concluding, it was evident that there is a significant statistical relationship between both variables (p=0.000).
