Abstract
The spread of misinformation and the inappropriate use of contraceptive methods have led to an increase in unplanned pregnancies globally, nationally, and locally. This underscores the need for nursing roles in health promotion, particularly targeting the youth in educational settings. This non-experimental, quantitative, and correlational research, conducted at the National University of Trujillo in 2023, aimed to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and the usage of contraceptive methods among university students from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism. The study included 107 young people who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire on the level of knowledge and use of contraceptive methods. The data were analyzed using Kendall's Tau-c correlation coefficient. The findings showed that 55.2% of the participants had a high level of knowledge, 38.3% had a moderate level, and 6.5% had a low level; 56.1% did not use contraceptive methods. Of these, 44.9% had not initiated sexual activity, while 43.9% were using contraceptives. There was no significant relationship found between the level of knowledge about contraceptive methods and their use among university students (p = 0.615).
