dc.descriptionThere are reports around the world about the association between family violence and cognitive alterations in children and adolescents so we tried to determine if there is correlation between Family Violence and Low Academic Performance by competences in the Mathematics and Language areas in students of the fifth cycle, according to the National Curricular Design, belonging to the UGEL 02 La Esperanza in the year 2016. It was an observational, descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional and retrospective study. 265 students of the fifth cycle were studied, according to the National Curricular Design (DCN), in which a survey was applied that shows the exposure or not to Family Violence and the results were contrasted with the final marks, by competences, of the Mathematics courses and Communication in the year 2017. There were 15.5% of students who suffered some type of Family Violence, between 4.2 and 12.8% of students showed Low Academic Performance in at least one competition and that all the chi squares obtained between the variables of family violence and poor performance in all the competences of both courses analyzed had a p <0.0001. It was concluded that there is statistically significant correlation between family violence and low performance in all the competences of both courses analyzed. dc.description.abstractHay reportes alrededor del mundo sobre asociación entre violencia familiar y alteraciones cognitivas en niños y adolescentes por lo que se buscó determinar si existe correlación entre Violencia Familiar y Bajo Rendimiento Académico por competencias en las áreas de Matemática y Comunicación en estudiantes del quinto ciclo, según el Diseño Curricular Nacional, pertenecientes a la UGEL 02 La Esperanza en el año 2016. Fue un estudio observacional, descriptivo, correlacional, transversal y retrospectivo. Se estudiaron a 265 alumnos del quinto ciclo, según el Diseño Curricular Nacional (DCN), en quienes se aplicó una encuesta que evidencia la exposición o no a Violencia Familiar y se contrastaron los resultados con las notas finales, por competencias, de los cursos de Matemática y Comunicación en el año 2016. Hubieron 15.5% de estudiantes que sufrieron algún tipo de violencia familiar, entre 4.2 y 12.8% de estudiantes presentaron bajo rendimiento académico en al menos una competencia y que todos los chi cuadrado obtenidos entre las variables de violencia familiar y bajo rendimiento en todas las competencias de ambos cursos analizados tuvieron un p<0.0001. Concluimos que sí existe correlación estadísticamente significativa entre la violencia familiar y el bajo rendimiento en todas las competencias de ambos cursos analizados.
