Abstract
ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to determine the effect of age on the rate, type of marrowing and fiber diameter in alpacas (Vicugna pacos) in CIDCS - Lachocc, for which 100 animals of different ages (1, 2, 3 and 4 years old) from the South American Camelidae Development Research Center - Lachocc of the National University of Huancavelica, located at more than 4100 and 4752 meters above sea level, from which fiber samples were extracted from the area of the middle rib of the animal and stored in polyethylene bags. On the other hand, the effects of this factor on the 3 characteristics under study (marrow rate, type of marrow and fiber diameter) and the association between them were estimated. Thus obtaining results for fiber diameter means values of 19.25; 22.37; 23, 78; and 23, 04 for, 1, 2, 3 and 4 years respectively with a high degree of significance (p <0.01) and medulation rate with values of 41.60; 54.60; 51,40 and 62,80 for the same ages in the same way with a high degree of significance (p <0.01). For the type of medulation, a total of 5 categories were found; (non-medullary fibers, fragmented fibers, discontinuous fibers, continuous fibers and strongly medullary fibers). In addition, thanks to the Chi Square test, a statistically significant association is found with respect to age and type of medulation. Therefore, it was concluded that age exerts a significant effect on these three variables in the study mentioned above.
