Abstract
During the COVID-19 health emergency, this quantitative study with a descriptive and correlational approach, employing a cross-sectional design, aimed to investigate the association between labor, demographic, and clinical factors such as age, gender, marital status, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and the perceived stress level among nursing staff who worked at the Maternity Matilde Hidalgo de Prócel, Guayaquil, 2021. The sample comprised 70 nursing assistants. Questionnaires were used: the Cohen, Kamarak, and Mermelstein (1983) Perceived Stress Scale for stress measurement and another questionnaire evaluating demographic, work-related, and clinical data. Instrument validity was confirmed using Pearson correlation and reliability through Cronbach's Alpha. Results revealed a predominantly female nursing staff and a high prevalence of diabetes, followed by hypertension. Nearly half of the participants experienced moderate stress levels, while 12.86% reported high stress levels during the pandemic. Significant associations between marital status, specialization, and stress levels underscored the influence of these variables on stress perception. Additionally, correlations were observed between age, clinical factors, and the perceived stress level. These findings emphasize the need for specific support strategies, considering the different demographic, work-related, and clinical situations of nursing staff to enhance their well-being and performance in times of health crisis.
