dc.description"In vitro antimicrobial effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of Curcuma longa rhizome (Guisador), on Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans" OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the in vitro antimicrobial activity of the hydroalcoholic extract of the Curcuma longa rhizome, on Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. MATERIAL AND METHOD: It was made by maceration from the powder previously obtained with ethanol / water (70:30) and then under reduced pressure in a rotavapor, obtaining the hydroalcoholic extract of turmeric. The antimicrobial effect on Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans was determined by finding the inhibitory concentration minima CIM by counting CFU, using concentrations of 25,50, 75 and 100% of the hydroalcoholic extract, in addition to control drugs (Vancomycin and Fluconazole). RESULTS: It was evidenced that at all concentrations of the hydroalcoholic extract had antimicrobial effect, for Staphylococcus aureus the MIC was 10 mg / mL, while for Candida albicans it was 2.5 mg / mL. In addition, in the case of the bacteria at the highest concentration used, the antibacterial effect is greater. There was a greater antimicrobial effect on Candida albicans than on Staphylococcus aureus. CONCLUSION: The hydroalcoholic extract of the Curcuma longa rhizome shows in vitro antimicrobial activity on Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. dc.description.abstract“Efecto antimicrobiano in vitro del extracto hidroalcohólico del rizoma de Curcuma longa (Guisador), sobre Staphylococcus aureus y Candida albicans” OBJETIVO: Evaluar la actividad antimicrobiana in vitro del extracto hidroalcohólico del rizoma de Curcuma longa, sobre a Staphylococcus aureus y Candida albicans. MATERIAL Y MÉTODO: Se realizó por maceración a partir del polvo antes obtenido con etanol / agua (70:30) y luego a presión reducida en rotavapor, obteniéndose el extracto hidroalcohólico de cúrcuma. El efecto antimicrobiano sobre Staphylococcus aureus y Candida albicans se determinó hallando la concentración inhibitoria minina CIM por conteo de UFC, utilizándose concentraciones de 25,50, 75 y 100% del extracto hidroalcohólico, además de fármacos controles (Vancomicina y Fluconazol). RESULTADOS: Se evidenció que a todas las concentraciones del extracto hidroalcohólico tuvo efecto antimicrobiano, para Staphylococcus aureus el CIM fue de 10 mg/mL, mientras que para Candida albicans fue de 2,5 mg/mL. Además en el caso de la bacteria a mayor concentración utilizada mayor es el efecto antibacteriano. Se presentó mayor efecto antimicrobiano sobre Candida albicans que sobre Staphylococcus aureus. CONCLUSIÓN: El extracto hidroalcohólico del rizoma de Curcuma longa, presenta actividad antimicrobiana in vitro sobre a Staphylococcus aureus y Candida albicans.
