Abstract
ABSTRACT This research aims to identify flood-prone areas along the Loco de Chamán River (Prog. Km 10+108 – Km 9+766) to design riverbank defenses that protect the affected areas. The methodology included a hydrological analysis using HEC-HMS 4.10 software, which determined a design flow of 891.7 m³/s for a 140-year return period. The hydraulic study was based on modeling with HEC-RAS 6.4 software, identifying a total of 240.36 ha vulnerable to flooding, of which 213.04 ha correspond to agricultural land and 27.32 ha to urban areas, distributed along the study section. According to the hydraulic modeling, three segments of riverbank defenses were designed to adapt to the river's characteristics. The first segment, from Km 0+000,00 to Km 0+500,00, has a width of 65 meters, a height of 4.00 m, and a foundation depth of 2.70 m. The second segment, from Km 0+500,00 to Km 4+900,00, has a width of 50 meters, a height of 4.70 m, and a foundation depth of 2.80 m. The third segment, from Km 4+900,00 to Km 9+658,00, features a width of 40 meters, a height of 5.00 m, and a foundation depth of 3.20 m. The hydraulic parameters for a 140-year design flow showed a maximum water depth of 3.70 m and a maximum velocity of 6.63 m/s. A total budget of S/ 34,921,994.73 has been estimated for the proposed structure.
