Abstract
ABSTRACT The study evaluated the effect of including corn germ in the diet of post-weaning piglets, analyzing its impact on production parameters, intestinal morphometry and hematocrit levels. Four treatments with different levels of corn germ inclusion (0%, 10%, 20% and 30%) were used in a completely randomized design, with four repetitions per treatment and a total of 64 piglets. The results showed that the inclusion of 20% corn germ (T2) significantly improved the daily weight gain (290 g/day) and the feed conversion index (1.65 g/g), compared to the other treatments (p < 0.05). Furthermore, T2 had the highest intestinal villi height (0.52 mm) and the best villus/crypt ratio (2.26), suggesting better nutrient absorption and intestinal health. No significant differences were observed in hematocrit levels between treatments, with values ranging between 35% and 37%. These results indicate that the inclusion of 20% corn germ is optimal to improve the productive performance and intestinal health of post-weaning piglets, without negatively affecting their general health. However, additional studies are recommended to evaluate the long-term effects and economic impact of this inclusion on large-scale pig production.
