dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT The present work aims to evaluate the effect of a gel based on the ethanolic extract of Ipomoea batatas Lam "purple sweet potato" on wounds induced in Mus musculus Balb / c. For this, the experimental animals were randomly divided into 4 experimental groups of 5 specimens each, each of these specimens was previously made an incisional wound on the back, the area in which the treatments were administered. To group I (negative control group), no treatment was applied; to group II, a base gel was applied (formulation that does not contain the compound under study); to group III and IV the gel formulation based on the shells of the roots of Ipomoea batatas Lam "purple sweet potato" was applied at 0,5% and 1% respectively. The application of the treatments were carried out once a day during a period of 14 days, during this period photographic controls were carried out and the dermal lesions were measured longitudinally. Subsequently, the experimental animals were euthanized and skin samples were taken for histopathological study. At the end of the study, the existence of a significant statistical difference in the reduction of the length of the dermal lesions was evidenced between the experimental groups (p <0.05), the groups that showed a better effect were groups III and IV, these results were correlated with histopathological study and observations at the macroscopic level. It was concluded that the gels based on the ethanolic extract of Ipomoea batatas Lam "purple sweet potato" have a healing effect on wounds induced in Mus musculus Balb / c, obtaining the greatest effect with the 1% gel.
